Cowboys RB DeMarco Murrary Sets Franchise Record in Win Over Rams

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) The final score in the St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys game wasn't expected to be close, and it wasn't.

Dallas coasted to a 34-7 win, and on the way managed to give birth to its newest star, rookie running back, DeMarco Murray.

Murray, the Cowboys' third round pick out of Oklahoma in this year's NFL draft, dashed 91 yards for a touchdown (the second-longest in club history)—on his first carry of the game (video below).

Murray didn't start the game, instead it was Tashard Choice who got the nod in place of the injured Felix Jones. But it was Murray who lifted the Cowboys all the way to the easy win over the Rams. Murray rushed for 253 yards on 25 carries, surpassing Emmitt Smith's single game rushing record of 237 yards back in 1993 at Philadelphia—shattering a momentous franchise record.

Prior to the game on Sunday, Murray said of performing in Wednesday's practice at the team's Valley Ranch facilities, "I'm ready. I've been working hard since I got here. I know the playbook and I'm mentally and physically ready."

And, he was "ready," as he proved Sunday.

As badly as Dallas has struggled in the red zone, Murray provides a power runner—a slashing type running back that can help with the Cowboys' play action passes, as he boasts stellar athleticism, balance and impressive footwork.

Murray's production on Sunday certainly makes him a serious contender to be this team's long-term starter.
