Company Recalls Meat, Poultry Pie Products

DAVIS, Okla. (AP) - Thousands of pounds of frozen meat and poultry pie products, sold in Texas and five other states, are being recalled.

The recall, from an Oklahoma-based company, involves nearly 9,000 pounds of products.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Thursday some products from Original Fried Pies, Inc. contain a preservative called sodium benzoate that doesn't appear on package labels.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service says sodium benzoate is not approved for use as an added ingredient in meat and poultry products.

The Davis, Okla.-based company's recall includes three different kinds of cheese sauce and another sauce with vegetables and chicken.

The food that's being recalled was produced between April 27 and Thursday. It was distributed for use at restaurant locations in Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma.

There haven't been any reports of illness tied to eating the mislabeled products.
