COLLEYVILLE — A lockdown put in place for Colleyville residents near Chilsom Park was lifted Thursday afternoon after a suspect was taken to the hospital for self-inflicted injuries.

Colleyville police say a standoff began after an investigation from the Dallas Police Fugitive Unit led into Bedford, before ending in Colleyville.

After being led to Bedford, Dallas police contacted the Bedford Police Department for assistance with a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle.

Colleyville police say they were notified an outside agency was requesting assistance around 10:31 a.m., after a driver failed to yield when Bedford Police initiated that traffic stop.

The driver continued to flee from officers into the cul-de-sac of Brentwood Court before exiting his vehicle with a pistol in his hand. Police say the suspect was not pointing or discharging the gun at anyone.

NETCOM Dispatch contacted nearby residents, asking them to stay inside their homes and lock their doors. A CodeRed alert was sent to nearby residents, as well.

Due to the subject being an aggravated robbery suspect, multiple SWAT teams with negotiators responded to the location, in addition to outside agency drone operators, a K-9 Officer, air support and other resources.

Officials say after three hours of negotiations, the North Tarrant Regional SWAT Team used a non-lethal distraction method during which the subject retrieved his handgun from the hood of his vehicle, turned it on himself and discharged the firearm.

Colleyville Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and rendered aid before the suspect was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Colleyville police say they will not be releasing the name of this subject at this time.

This is a developing story that will be updated as we learn more information.
