Cold Saturday, Windy Sunday
Both Larry and Jeff Jamison are doing their weather segments this evening from the Frisco Fieldhouse. Tomorrow is our annual "Get Healthy Texas" event there!
FRONT ARRIVES THIS EVENING
Yet another great winter day today, temperatures in the upper 70's (warmest day this month and warmest one since Nov.20th) teamed with gusty winds. We are actually seeing readings around 80 degrees around the metroplex right now. Wow! Colder air sits behind a cold front along the Red River to our north. This front is headed into north Texas this evening. Tomorrow will not be like today.
COLD START TO GET HEALTHY TEXAS
For those running the 5k tomorrow morning from the Frisco Fieldhouse temperatures start around 34 degrees with a brisk north wind. Highs tomorrow will be in the low 50's with mostly sunny skies by afternoon. That's a day a full 25 degrees COLDER than today. Winds will stay out of the northwest around 10-15mph before diminishing by afternoon, a reminder to all of us that it is January after all. Don't worry, the chill is not to last.
WINDY SUNDAY
A strong low pressure system to going to swing across Kansas on Sunday. It is going to produce a very strong southwest wind here. We anticipate winds at 25-35mph with gusts around 40mph. There will be ample sunshine and those SW winds will push highs right back in the 70's again like today. The winds won't make it seem as warm though, especially in the morning hours when temperatures are in the mid-40's.
RAIN FOR NEXT WEEK
Good news for the dry conditions, we've got a decent chance of rain coming up mid-week. Monday will be dry and mild with highs in the 60's. Tuesday clouds and wind start to pick up, some rain activity will show up at the end of the day or in the evening. The big rains will come the next day.
DREARY MID-WEEK
Wednesday should be cloudy and wet all day with a stiff wind and temperatures staying in the 50's all day. Not a pleasant day but a good rain is forecast, perhaps as much as an inch. High pressure is going to build in from the west on Thursday but the upper low pressure system driving this rain event will be moving overhead. That means another cloudy day with a northwest wind…highs will stay in the 50's again. Below you can see how generous HPC is with the predicated rainfall amounts. Notice the big area of blue (1" or better) over the parched lands of Texas:
Dry and warmer weather returns for Friday and for next weekend.
