Cold Rain Coming
A twenty degree drop from one afternoon to another…
Yesterday it was 72° at 2pm under sunny skies. Today it was 52° under mostly cloudy conditions and a north wind. Winter weather has returned to Texas and soon so will some rain.
TONIGHT: FOG
Higher moisture content in the air across the southern half will produce a fog by tomorrow morning. Patchy fog will be around the metro area with temperatures in the low 40's. This fog wil be slow to leave, we'll be waiting for a NNE wind to pick up in the afternoon to clear it away. Expect mostly cloudy skies through the day and highs in the upper 50's.
TOMORROW NIGHT: RAIN
A strong upper level low pressure system will swing right over the state of Texas over the next 48 hours, bringing the first rain of the new year into north Texas. It should be a good rain at that, the majority of which will fall in just east and southeast of the metro area. In is in this area thunderstorms are also possible. The threat rain comes in late Sunday night for the metro area and doesn't leave until Tuesday evening.
MONDAY/TUESDAY: A COLD RAIN
The rain will really start to pick up as the day wears on Monday. It'll be cold and windy as well, with highs only in the upper-40's and winds gusting around 25mph. Some story on Tuesday with cold, windy and wet weather on tap with highs again only in the 40's. The rain should finally start to let up by Tuesday late night. Rainfall amounts look impressive, as much as 6" could fall over near the coastal plain north of Houston, 2"-3" around here:
While we are getting rain this will be another snow event for the western edge of Texas, below is the forecast for at least 4" of snow on Monday. Green represents a 40% chance:
THEN A SHOT OF COLD AIR
Wednesday will have highs in the 50's before a strong cold front sweeps in from the north. This cold air means highs only in the 40's both Thursday and Friday. It'll be cloudy and windy on Thursday with even a few snowflakes possible. By Saturday we should have the coldest of the air shifting to the east and we'll "recover" to highs in the low-50's.
