Clouds & Rain On The Way

Another fine winter day enjoyed over north Texas. Wind gusts hit the 30mph range but highs reached into the mid-60's. The Cowtown Marathon started just as the sun reached the horizon with temperatures in the upper 30's and little bit of a wind chill, the wind started getting gusty about two hours into the race. All in all I'd say not too bad of a winter day (we are 22 days from the equinox and counting).

Tonight clouds will move in from the south. Overnight lows will be more than ten degrees warmer thanks to a southeast wind and the cloud cover.

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds , Low: 50°, SE 5-15mph

Tomorrow expect a cloudy day with a brisk SSE wind. Occasional light rain will be in the forecast from the morning to the early evening. There is a chance some thunderstorms could get going along the Red River counties (Bowie over to Paris) by late evening and overnight. If any severe occurs it would likely be just strong winds and small hail.

MONDAY: Cloudy, Sprinkles, High: 65°, SSE 10-15mph

Tuesday the storm chance is a little higher, again the highest risk area will be along the northern counties that line the Red River.  It is going to be a very windy day with gusts in the 35mph range. The wind will come from the south so temperatures are going to get into the mid-70's. We'll likely see a break in the cloud cover late-morning through mid-day. Storms and rain will be scattered but move across north Texas into the late evening hours. Expected rainfall amounts are in the .25" - .50" range for the last rain of meteorological winter (the 6th wettest winter on record).  Higher amounts are of course expected where the storms hit. Below you can see the area of green showing the where the storm chances are best (issued this morning by the SPC). Also you can see how minor rainfall amounts are expected Tuesday (total rainfall forecast issued by the HPC):

TUESDAY: Mostly Cloudy, 30% Storm Chance, High: 75°, S 15-25mph, Gusts 30-35mph

A cold front comes through late Tuesday. Skies should clear by early morning on Wednesday. Highs should reach to the around 70 degrees after a morning low around 50 degrees. Winds will veer from the west (in the morning) to the northwest (in the afternoon). Humidity is going to be very low with sunny skies.  This is the last day of meteorological winter.

The next rain chance arrives Friday morning ahead of a cold front. High on Thursday and Friday should get into the 70's but be in the 60's (and sunny) for next weekend.
