ROCKWALL (CBSDFW) - The city of Rockwall was awarded a $400,000 grant by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to help with the construction of a new neighborhood park in the Breezy Hill development.

According to the city, their proposal was the second highest scoring project and was one of the 10 approved grants out of the 22 applicants.

"We are honored to receive this grant for a new park," said Assistant City Manager Brad Griggs. "Six months ago, our grant application to TPWD was funded in the amount of $400,000 to construct the Park at Stone Creek. Council approved its site plan recently, and construction documents are being prepared, and the project should start in the spring of 2016."

There are 28 acres of land dedication, $210,000 of trail construction commitments and $80,000 of pro-rata equipment fees paid by the developer to be used with the $400,000 in grant funds for the Breezy Hill neighborhood park.

"These two neighborhood parks will contribute to the already high quality of life and provide the residents of our community the opportunity to play, exercise and create lasting family memories for many years to come.  Rockwall residents have consistently ranked parks as a very high priority, and our City Council and Park Board have created the opportunity to add more than 40 acres of park land for these two additional neighborhood parks," said Griggs.
