IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Irving is denying claims for people who were flooded out of an apartment complex or had their cars flooded last week due to a water main break.

The broken water main near the city's water tower sent 2 million gallons of water into the Newport Apartments, 3466 North Belt Line Road, complex.

But the City of Irving cites a law from the 1920s claiming immunity in paying the claims.

The city's communications manager Meribeth Sloan issued the following statement:

"Tristar is the City of Irving's independent third party administrator that conducts investigations and makes the determinations on claims filed against the city. At this point, we are reviewing Tristar's investigation and conclusions."
