Dallas Chase Suspect Has History Of Violence
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man who led police on an hour-long chase that ended in middle of downtown Dallas has a history of violent relationships, according to Dallas County court records.
Police Thursday afternoon were attempting to arrest Ternorris Duncan on a warrant for aggravated assault. Officers say he fired several shots at his ex-girlfriend Jessica Thompson Wednesday morning, as she got out of her car at the Holly Parks apartments.
Four months pregnant, Thompson reportedly ran to a relative's home, where she escaped unharmed.
Although police have not speculated on a motive, court records show the two are involved in a paternity suit involving their one year old son, born in April of last year.
A hearing scheduled in case last week was reset for July.
During the lengthy police chase, Duncan had a different girlfriend, Courtney Richardson, sitting in his passenger seat. The similarities between the two women, though, are striking.
Court records show Courtney Richardson is also involved in a paternity suit with Duncan over their one year old son, born in January of last year.
A hearing is scheduled for Friday.
Duncan was arrested last year for violently attacking Richardson, too, and received deferred adjudication.
A police report in the case shows a week before she gave birth to their son, Duncan "grabbed her by the throat" and "kicked her in the stomach".
Richardson reportedly told officers and wrote a statement saying he had also struck her with a gun, but later changed her story, according to police.
At a press conference, Thursday afternoon, Dallas police spokesperson, Cpl. Kevin Janse, said officers had not yet determined her involvement in the chase.
"She is currently here at headquarters being interviewed to try to determine her role in this," he said.
CBS 11 found Duncan's history of abusing girlfriends goes back even further, though. In March of 2010, court records show, he was involved in a fight with a third woman, Janine Jones, with whom he has a daughter.
A police report states, when she accused him of dating other women, he pointed a gun at her head and told her "If you ever try to keep my daughter from me, then I'll kill you, take her, and your family will never see her again."
Duncan also received deferred adjudication in that case. His criminal history also shows previous charges for drug possession and evading arrest.
When police arrested him Thursday, they did discover a gun inside the car he was driving.
