Ceremony Marks Renovations At Dallas' Pike Park
DALLAS (AP) -- Hundreds of community members gathered to celebrate renovations at Pike Park in Dallas.
A ceremony was held Saturday at the park located north of downtown. City records show that the park served waves of immigrants from Germany, Switzerland and France, in addition to Mexicans fleeing a revolution that began in 1910. The park opened in 1915.
The Dallas Mexican American Historical League pushed to spruce up the park. The Dallas Morning News reports that improvements include tile work, landscaping, electrical wiring and black wrought-iron gates not far from the state historical marker dedicated in 1981.
Saturday's dedication kicked off with a ribbon-cutting and speech by Mayor Mike Rawlings followed by performances, including a mariachi band and folklorico dancers.
