Central Expressway Reopened After Fuel Spill Cleaned Up
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The portion of southbound Interstate 75 near Mockingbird Lane that was shut down while workers cleaned up nearly 50 gallons of spilled fuel from an accident was reopened before rush hour Wednesday.
The driver of an 18-wheeler said he ran over something that punctured his right-side saddle tank. He pulled over, slowing traffic and causing a collision between a car and a Sport Utility Vehicle, authorities said.
Details of the accident are still under investigation, but the elderly couple driving the car were transported to Baylor Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV declined to be taken to the hospital after being evaluated. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
A hazardous materials crew was called to the scene to clean up the spilled fuel from the 18-wheeler. They laid absorbent to clear the 40 to 50 gallons of fuel that poured out from the 100-gallon tank while the remaining fuel was loaded into barrels.
Traffic was backed up from SMU Blvd. to Park Lane as crews cleaned the scene.
