The GBag Nation's Jeff Cavanaugh is going to do a player breakdown of a lot of the potential pro players that people have graded in the first few rounds, and they'll come out every couple of days or so as he gets a good enough feel for the guys he's watching to put together what he considers a 'quality evaluation'.
Alvin "Bud" Dupree - Defensive End - Kentucky
Height: 6036
Weight: 267
40 time: 4.63
Games studied: Missouri, Mississippi State, South Carolina
Positives: He's a pretty complete player already. He's a burst guy off the edge that can turn the corner on a tackle. Is also big and strong enough to disengage from blockers in the run game when he needs to. Good balance and change of direction. Uses length/leverage/balance to get where he wants to get to. Very fluid athlete. Versatile player. For example on a single play vs Mizzou he comes off the ball (fast) and makes the tackle really dig to get depth to not let him around, he dives back inside with an arm under move to get by. He's picked up by the guard who he engages, changes direction back outside, sheds the guy and makes the QB leave the pocket. Plays with leverage, fights to not let a guy sustain a block on him. Moves really well in short areas and in pursuit for a guy over 260. When he's blocked he won't stay blocked for long. Strong enough, quick enough and athletic enough to not let a guy keep him blocked. Think he can play in 4-3 as a DE or 3-4 as an OLB.
Negatives: This isn't necessarily a negative but more of an "I wish". Kentucky had him as a stand up outside edge rusher a lot, would have liked to see him with his hand on the ground more. When he's lined up that way he's got a good edge rush, some power to hold ground and get clean in the run game. Just wanted to see it more because I'm selfish and am looking for a Cowboys DE. Do wish he would finish more plays. I don't mean effortwise, but he gets in the backfield a ton and is inches away from making a lot more plays.
Overall: If the Cowboys stay at 27 and he makes it there, sign me up. Like his versatility.
