Carter, Lawrence Nearing Return For Cowboys

IRVING (105.3 THE FAN) -- The Cowboys escaped Sunday's win over the Giants with relatively few injuries, and Stephen Jones says the team is about to get a lot healthier.

Linebacker Bruce Carter is among the defensive standouts who have missed significant time. Carter has missed the last three game with a thigh injury but is expected to practice this week.

"I think they're all on target. Josh [Brent] still has a ways to go, but Bruce -- there's a great chance he'll practice this week and play," said Jones with the G-Bag Nation on 105.3 The Fan.

Brent has been able to workout and attend team meetings while serving his suspension. He is eligible to return to practice in Week 9 and could return to game action Nov. 23 in New York.

Demarcus Lawrence, the Cowboys' second-round pick who was placed on the short-term injured list because of a broken right foot, is also nearing a return. Lawrence is eligible to play as soon as Week 9 against the Cardinals -- and it sounds like he will.

"Demarcus is doing great," said Jones. "He probably could go, but based on the rules on injured reserve for return, he can practice this week but can't play. Next week he'll be ready to go, and he's ready."

Jones says that fill-in right tackle Jermey Parnell "tweaked" his ankle in the second quarter against the Giants, but played through it.

DeMarco Murray left the game in the second quarter and received attention on the sideline for an apparent ankle issue. When asked about the injury after the game, Murray offered only the following: "I'm fine."

DeMarco is fine. Demarcus is great. And the Cowboys might be a stronger -- or at least healthier -- team in the coming weeks.
