Carrollton Family Fed Up With 'Close Calls' Due To Reckless Drivers

CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) Too many hits and close calls a Carrollton homeowner is ready to move after a car crashed into her yard this weekend.

Neighbors want the city to make some changes along E. Peters Colony Road, and will voice their concerns at a council meeting Tuesday night.

The speed limit is 30 mph along E. Peters Colony off Josey Lane, but people who live along the curve by the pond, say too many drivers take it fast, and crash out into yards, and even homes.

Wendy and Rachel Taylor's home took a near-hit on Saturday. The Taylors put heavy boulders in their front yard for protection. One stopped a car on Saturday night that ran off the road and hit the boulder, before hitting a tree.

Just a few yards past the tree is the bedroom where their four-year-old son slept.

"If I can't feel like my child is safe in my home, then I've got to do something to make that happen," said Wendy.

A series of accidents happened back in 2013, including a car that plowed through a brick wall of a home across the street from the Taylors.

Opposite the home on the street, is a pond bordered by a jogging trail.

"Speed bumps, adjust the road, do something, anything, that's going to slow these people down, because somebody's going to die," said Wendy.

Carrollton City Councilman Jeff Andonian, from Place One, is aware of the concerns. Andonian says he's in touch with city staff to see if more can be done.

A traffic study last year didn't reveal anything out of the ordinary, Andonian said.

Wendy says the crash over the weekend maybe the breaking point for her family.

"My son's room is just a few feet from where this happened. If he was just a hair to the left, he would have been in the house," said Wendy.
