Busy Week For The Arts In DFW
It's a busy week for galas and announcements in DFW!
TITAS has announced they will have their Command Performance Gala this Saturday night at the Winspear Opera House. It is open to the public with tickets starting at just $19.00. That's not much more than a ticket to the movies on a Saturday night nowadays! So get dressed to the nines and head out to see one of the premiere dancers of all time - Twyla Tharp as she makes a rare DFW visit. This amazing artist revolutionized modern dance and has been responsible for some of the most daring and exciting choreography ever performed on stage. She is the personal guest of TITAS artistic director Charles Santos who told me the night promises to be magical. And with affordable pricing like this - a night in the arts district at a world class venue with world class entertainment is magical and priceless!!
AT&T Performing Arts has announced the 3rd season of the Lexus Broadway Series and what a line up! Some shows will be performed for the very first time here in Dallas and some will be returning in new productions revamped and updated. The 2011-2012 season kicks off with HAIR. A phenomenon in the 70's - the Tony award winning musical has been re-worked for a new generation. It's been a sell out on Broadway and now the powerful musical comes to the Winspear. Rounding out the line up are Les Miserables 25th anniversary production, In the Heights, American Idiot and Jersey Boys - one of the most fun crowd pleasers to hit any stage! The new season begins in September of this year - but first you'll want to see American Idol finalist Constantine in ROCK OF AGES next month and then the sensational BILLY ELLIOT come to town in June. The former is one of the best shows I have ever seen. I took my then 13-year-old to the Broadway production a few years ago and he was miserable as we waited in line for tickets - pleading with me to change my mind. I did not - we saw the show and he actually told me he really enjoyed it!!! I am betting DFW audiences will too!
The Dallas Museum of Art has opened their American Indian exhibit of very impressive and breathtaking artifacts gathered from around the country. The amazing details and intricacy of the many objects are so incredible. It is an exhibit you will want to take your family to - American history comes to life in a way not seen before. Don't forget special pricing and deals are at all of our Dallas and Fort Worth museums every month. There is no excuse not to take little ones (in fact all generations) out for an afternoon to view art and history and science. It beats another trip to the mall!!
Next week the USA Film Festival comes to town with screen legend Cary Grant's only child - Jennifer Grant - in attendance to talk about life with her legendary father and the festival will screen the classic TO CATCH A THIEF. I look forward to hearing her commentary. The Las Colinas Movie Studios celebrates their 30th anniversary this year and will hold a huge gala next week - we will take a look back at the sound stages that launched the career of the iconic purple dinosaur Barney as well as many other stars!
See you next time... in the spotlight!
