Brugler: Cowboys Got Draft's Best Value

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- "The draft is all about value, and the Cowboys got the best value out of any team this year."

Those are the words of CBS Sports draft analyst Dane Brugler following Dallas' signing of OT La'el Collins.

Collins, who went undrafted last week due to a pending murder investigation, was free to sign with any NFL team after being cleared in the investigation. He chose Dallas.

Now Collins, considered by most as a top-20 talent in this year's draft, joins an offensive line that had three Pro Bowlers in 2014.

"He brings position flexibility. He can play guard. He can play tackle," said Brugler with the G-Bag Nation on 105.3 The Fan. "At LSU, he was a guard as a sophomore. He moved to left tackle the last two years...He's a very durable, reliable player."

Collins will likely start his career by battling Ronald Leary for the starting left guard spot. He'd be playing alongside Pro Bowl selectees Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin -- as well as right tackle Doug Free.

"It's going to be tough to put any offensive line up to what the Cowboys have going on -- and that was before the La'el Collins signing," said Brugler. "I don't see how any other team can have rival what the Cowboys have going on on the offensive line."

Brugler had Collins rated as the 19th best player in this year's draft. DallasCowboys.com scout Bryan Broaddus believes Collins could have been drafted much higher.

"I think the Giants would have taken him at no. 9 if everything was behind him," said Broaddus Thursday.

Add Collins to the list of potential draft "steals" from 2015. Randy Gregory, who was seen as a top-10 talent, slid to Dallas in the second round at No. 60. Most also thought CB Byron Jones would be off the board at No. 27.

In Brugler's eyes, the Cowboys nabbed the 16th (Gregory), 19th (Collins), and 22nd (Jones) best players in this year's draft. If the Cowboys hit on all of them...

"Give Jerry Jones credit. He might have another executive of the year coming."
