FORT WORTH (CBS11) – After being on the road for nearly a month and half the Gatica family from Fort Worth is back home for a quick pit stop before heading back on the second leg of their cross country trip in an RV.

John and Kristy Gatica had quit their jobs and cashed in their savings to make this trip of a lifetime happen for their wheelchair bound sons. Both their sons Hayden and Dakota live with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy but their parents weren't about to let their condition keep them from experiencing life's precious moments and sights. So they packed into an RV to see the country.

Fresh back from the first leg of the trip Dakota Gatica recounted all things they saw for the first time saying " We saw the grand canyon. We saw the ocean in Malibu. We got to see the dolphins in the morning swimming."

Their father, John said the look on their face when they saw those sights confirmed despite the gamble he and his wife took in making this trip happen it was all worth it.

He said, "When they saw it and their eyes were so big and they had that moment of wow," about the moment they saw the blue water from the Pacific ocean.

The Gatica family will hit the road again on Monday for the second leg of their trip.
