FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The bodies of a woman and a child were discovered in a field near a wrecked car in Fort Worth on Tuesday afternoon, and police now have more questions than answers.
A driver who lives in the area spotted the car in the empty field, where Bryant Irvin Road meets Dirks Road. He alerted a passing police officer. But it was not until hours later, as a man was repairing a nearby fence, that the two bodies were found.
The woman was naked, and resting on top of the child, an infant. Their bodies were about 200 feet away from the crash site.
Authorities in Fort Worth have not offered many further details about this case, and have not even said if the crash and the bodies are related. Officers were at the scene for several hours on Tuesday conducting an investigation.
Tom Davies, the person who first saw the wrecked car, hopes that police can provide more information soon. "I thought something was wrong, because the car was so smashed up, pretty seriously wrecked," he recalled. "I was just concerned that there might be somebody in the car."
The names of the victims have not been released. Likewise, it is not yet known who owned the crashed car.
People who live near the crash site do not recall hearing anything out of the ordinary. "It's a little scary," Davies added on Tuesday. "It's concerning because they may be our neighbors. You hate to think that's how somebody's life is going to end is in a muddy field."
