Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug arrested, nearly a year after being taken into custody before album release, police say
Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug was arrested Friday, nearly a year after police took him into custody ahead of his 2025 album release, authorities said.
Born Xavier Landum, BigXthaPlug is facing driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and illegal possession of a firearm charges, according to the Allen Police Department.
He was booked into Collin County Jail.
"At this time, we can confirm that an arrest has been made," said Sam Rippamonti, public information officer for Allen police. "However, we are unable to provide any additional details."
The investigation remains active, Rippamonti said.
In late August 2025, BigXthaPlug was jailed on drug and weapons charges.
At that time, Dallas police said officers pulled over a pickup truck missing its front license plate on South Great Trinity Forest Way near U.S. 175. An officer asked the driver, identified as Landum, if he had a firearm. BigXthaPlug told officers he did and detailed where to find it in the truck. Police said a criminal database flagged Landum as connected to a gang in Arlington, which meant he was not legally allowed to possess a gun.
Police said they also found a small amount of marijuana in the truck.
Before his 2025 arrest, BigXthaPlug had been scheduled to appear at an album release party in Deep Ellum to celebrate his then-new album, I Hope You're Happy. The album included songs with artists such as Darius Rucker, Luke Combs, Shaboozey, and Jelly Roll.
BigXthaPlug was born in Dallas and has lived in North Texas. His hit songs include "Texas" and "Mmhmm." He had also previously been arrested on drug and weapons charges in 2022.
CBS News Texas will provide updates as more information becomes available.
