Best yet!
So, in this attempt to knock out a couple of Ironman 70.3's this season, this last weekend was a nice milestone. On Saturday, took a great morning ride with a large group, and despite a pretty solid wind, rolled out 58 miles. The Half Ironman will have us riding 56 miles, after swimming 1.2 miles, and then hopping off the bike for a half marathon. And that's where the weekend got even better. Sunday was a super morning to run, and the body was into it. My always sore achilles did talk to me, but not as loud as usual. That was a bleesing. Running along the shore of Lake Grapevine, and the adjacent area in Grapevine, nearly ten miles went by without a hitch. Then, on Monday morning, the first test drive of my new open water wetsuit. Slick as grease, clocked a very fast 1.2 miles in the pool. All in all, it was the best three day stretch yet in training. Am I ready? Ready to finish for sure. But this will be my first ever Half Ironman, and i have no designs on any kind of competetive pace. This is a "see it, feel it, enjoy it" kind of race for me. A test of endurance to see where I stand in my own world right now. Training with an on-going injury is never fun, but with the kinds of days I've had lately, it's getting better and better. And these last few days, best yet!
