Best Memorial Day Events For The Family In DFW

Most years, Dallas is under the threat of ice and hail even as the first day of spring rolls around in March. Luckily, Memorial Day seems to officially be the opening bell for patio season. The yo-yo temperatures that have you bundled up in the morning and stripped down to shorts and tanks in the afternoon have passed, and North Texans can look forward to enjoying long days of sunshine and outdoor fun before the heat starts getting unbearable. With the kids out of school, and many folks off work, check out some of the things to do during the 2016 Memorial Day weekend.

"Son, who are you carrying?" That was the question posed to former Navy SEAL and war veteran Clint Bruce one Memorial Day. Bruce, frustrated that people around him didn't really understand the true meaning behind Memorial Day, strapped on his pack and began walking as a way to honor his fallen brothers in arms. An older veteran encountered Bruce and asked him the question that sparked the Carry The Load Memorial March. The march runs Sunday, May 29 at 12:16 p.m. through Monday, May 30. Participants can join the march at any time during the 20-hour window and walk as long as they'd like. Weighted backpacks are not required. The donations raised by Carry The Load benefit nonprofit partners who directly benefit members of the military, law enforcement, firefighters and rescue personnel.
