Mardi Gras is a great time for celebration, and everyone wants to be in New Orleans for it. The next best thing is to bring a taste of New Orleans to whereever you are. Dallas has a long history of enjoying this great celebration and has some events that have been going on for years. Whether you like a large crazy party, a nice family oriented time or a formal affair, there are places in Dallas to enjoy Mardi Gras. Here are five of the best.

On Saturday, February 20, there will be 28 bands on five stages, lots of beads flying around and all the classic Mardi Gras type drinks you would expect. The music is Texas Red Dirt and country style, all in a 90,000 square foot automobile building at the historic fairgrounds of Dallas. The event will be held regardless of the weather, and this is the 16th year for the event. They expect 10,000 people to attend. If you want a big party, this might be the ticket.

In 2016, the dance will be held at 7 p.m. on Febuary 6 at the Kessler Theater. Heavy cajun style food is part of the event, as well as an evening of fun, costumes and general debauchery. You may reserve a private table in the balcony, on the dance floor, or just mingle with the crowd. Just in case you still have some energy after the evening, there is a parade the next day, as well as a 1k walk or 5k fun run to benefit area children. You can have a great time here and support the neighborhood.
