The day came and went. The day Rangers fans have been waiting for. The Rangers played their first playoff game in 11 years and beat the Tampa Bay Rays. It's also the day that Cliff Lee hopefully proved to his doubters, why he's is one of the best pitchers in baseball. After getting himself out of a first inning jam, and also giving up a solo shot in the 7th, the majority of the outing was classic post season Lee. Of course what I'm about to say is premature, but hear me out. Winning in the post season is Lee's forte. He's been able to shut down playoff teams in October. Will he be for the Rangers what he was for the Phils ?...we'll see. But if you remember correctly, after he pitched stellar ball for Philadelphia in the post season ...they traded him to Seattle. Everyone in the city of brotherly hate, scratched their heads and said "WTF".
The issue was over money and length of his deal. Cliff wanted big bucks and a longterm committment. The Phillies had limited funds, and had their eyes on Roy Halladay. Bottom line is that they chose Roy over Cliff. With Josh Hamilton's deal to be evaluated in the off season, obviously we don't want to see that scenario again. Lee's made it clear that he wants to play for a winner. The problem with that is, when you're a "free agent money game winner " playing for a winner , your appeal to other teams increases. As well as your price tag. So the question is, if he helps the Rangers win it all... ( cue the Clash ) will he stay, or will he go? Only Chuck's checkbook will know for sure.
