Baldinger: Cowboys Dropped Ball In Not Replacing DeMarco
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger has been very critical of the Dallas Cowboys' offseason -- particularly as it relates to the running back position.
He's not backing down.
The former NFL offensive lineman -- who played with the Cowboys from 1982-87 -- joined Shan & RJ Thursday morning to defend his position.
Baldinger, in direct opposition to The Fan's Shan Shariff, believes DeMarco Murray is a truly "special" player.
"Don't tell me he's not a special back. Don't tell me he can't make people miss, get skinny in the hole," said Baldinger. "I just don't believe they have anybody in their lineup right now that can duplicate what he accomplished a year ago."
While Baldinger understands the financial decision the Cowboys made in letting Murray depart for the Eagles, he believes the front office made a huge mistake in not addressing the position in last week's draft.
"My whole point about the rant is that they elected not to draft what was a good draft with running backs -- not draft one of them. That was the head scratcher to me."

Baldinger didn't object to the selection of Chaz Green in the third round, but he points out that 16 backs were drafted after Green.
Buck Allen, Jay Ajayi, David Cobb -- all were available when Dallas selected Green. Baldinger believes that all of these guys would have represented an upgrade in the Dallas backfield.
He's also believes the departure of offensive line coach Bill Callahan could have a huge impact on the running game. Baldinger thinks the offensive line coach is the most important positional coach on NFL staffs.
"It's the most amount of bodies that have to come together to work together. Five guys -- and in the Cowboys case, it's actually eight because they play with two tight ends; they play with a fullback -- he's the one that has to coordinate it all."
No current back for the Cowboys impresses Baldinger:
-- McFadden has never been able to make people miss, which has led to injuries.
-- Joseph Randle has shown flashes, but that's it.
-- Lance Dunbar has yet to score a TD in three seasons.
-- And Ryan Williams, a high second round pick, has played a total of five games in four years.
So, with the Cowboys failing to replace Murray, who will win the NFC East?
"I think the Eagles will win the NFC East. I think they've got the best running back in the NFC East. The fact that the Cowboys have lost their best offensive player -- I think it's really going to hurt them."
