Azle Teen's Comment Causes School Scare

AZLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Police have extra patrols at Azle High School on Thursday after a random comment from a student was taken out of context and then spread around online.

According to assistant superintendent Tanya Anderson, this incident started during lunch on Wednesday when one kid said, "Everyone who doesn't wear red tomorrow to school should be shot."

"A teenager popped off and said something not very responsible," said Anderson.

A girl who was sitting at the table became concerned about that comment, and went to the principal just as classes were ending. Somehow, the comment also found its way to social media websites, Anderson said, where it was further blown out of proportion.

"There never was a threat," Anderson added.

The student was given in-school suspension while the Azle Independent School District conducts an investigation. "The parents have been contacted," Anderson said. "The student does not have access to guns."

Still, the Azle Police Department has assigned additional officers to patrol the campus on Thursday. The school has not been placed on any sort of lockdown, and district administrators are not worried about student safety.
