Tarrant County Sergeant Dies After Injuries To Head In Downtown Fort Worth

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A Tarrant County Sheriff's Office sergeant has died from injuries suffered to his head Friday evening, authorities confirmed.

The deputy was identified as Keith Shepherd, a 19-year veteran with the department.

Fort Worth police said they responded to an "officer down" call near 200 Taylor Street Friday evening near the Tarrant County Jail.

Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn confirmed the sergeant was found in his personal vehicle in a parking lot and suffering from injuries.

The sheriff said Shepherd was going on his lunch break and did not return. Authorities could not confirm if this incident was a shooting.

The sergeant was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives showed up at the scene of the incident Friday evening.

There is currently no information on a suspect or suspects, but authorities do not believe there is a threat to the public.
