DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The Austin City Council will vote on a $1.6 million contract with the county for rape kit testing.
Austin police have about 600 recent sexual assault investigations including nearly 500 rape kits, according to the Austin American Statesman.
Their crime lab closed in may amid concerns raised by the Texas Forensic Science Commission.
Last month Dallas received a $1 million federal grant for backlogged rape kit testing.
CBS 11 is awaiting comment from the Dallas County Administrator to see how if at all the rape kits from Austin would delay testing of Dallas county cases.
