PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Some people are hoping a troubled Plano teen's murder will serves as a wakeup call for the young people who helped lay him to rest today.
Loved ones gathered in Plano today for 18-year-old Monty Payne's funeral. The ceremony comes just as police announced the arrests of four suspects in connection with his murder last week. Investigators say Jaylen Johnson, 21, was the shooter after he and three others drove to meet Payne to steal marijuana from him.
The pastor at Payne's funeral urged the victim's young friends and family members to see this tragedy as an opportunity to turn their lives around.
On Tuesday, three others connected to Johnson's death were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, police said. Those are: 21-year-old Giovanni Christopher Rhodes, of Frisco; 17-year-old Daniel Chibuikem Ijioma, of Little Elm; and 17-year-old Katlyn Denise Straw, of Frisco.
All four remain behind bars tonight.
