There are many Christmas song classics, but only one was written by Dallas resident Randy Brooks.  It involves a drunken Grandma and reckless reindeer.  Can you guess it?

"Every day I see another article about the definitive list of the worst Christmas songs ever and 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer' is definitely always mentioned" said singer and songwriter Randy Brooks.

Was Brooks upset with his grandma when he decided to write the song? "No, I was angry at Merle Haggard," said Brooks. "I had just listened to a Christmas song of his called 'Grandma's Christmas Card' and I said I'll bet you in the third verse the card's not going to come. My thought was let's write a song Merle Haggard style but let's tell people right up front that somebody has died,  and then let's tell the story that goes with it afterword."

He has gotten use to the love/ hate relationship people have with the song. "Whenever anybody meets me they say Oh I love that song.  I know that's not true but that's ok" Randy added.

Randy Brooks will be joined on guitar by Johnny Hooper tonight in concert at the Allen Public Library.  The show starts at 7:30 pm and is free!

JD Ryan is Around Town with the true story of how "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" was written.
