Arlington Selects New Police Chief
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Arlington announced Wednesday that it has selected its new Chief of Police.
Interim Police Chief Will Johnson will assume the position on March 18, after a swearing-in ceremony at the Arlington Convention Center. Johnson has 18 years of experience in law enforcement, including 16 years with the City of Arlington. He has been in an executive role since 2007, previously serving as a deputy police chief and assistant police chief.
Johnson led the police response after a tornado struck Arlington last spring, and was a key to the city's planning efforts for events like the 2010 NBA All-Star Game and Super Bowl XLV, both held at Cowboys Stadium. "Will is a proven leader on the department's commanding staff," said Arlington City Manager Trey Yelverton. "He is recognized by his peers as an experienced commander, and has excelled at responding to difficult issues facing the community."
"I am truly humbled to be selected to serve as Arlington's next police chief," Johnson said. "I am excited to work with our community to build on our heritage of making Arlington a premier city."
