Arlington PD Make Arrest In Deadly Teacher Shooting
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Late Thursday morning, Arlington police announced that a suspect had been arrested and charged with the murder of Kennedale Independent School District teacher Ross Shreves.
Shreves was found shot to death in the parking lot of No Frills Grill & Sports Bar on Little Road. The 27-year-old Kennedale Junior High School English and writing teacher had been with the district for three years. A vigil was held for Shreves on Tuesday night.
According to police, it was the evidence that led them to Patrick Jardell Brooks. "Based on evidence collected at the scene, including surveillance video [and] cell phone messaging and those sort of things from the victim's phone… officers were able to identify a suspect in the case," Arlington PD spokesperson Tiara Richard explained.
Brooks, 27, was arrested at his Arlington home on Thursday morning. Police said Brooks and Shreves were acquainted. "The two knew each other from high school and they've only recently reconnected, according to family and friends," Richard said, adding that the investigation continues, "So, it's not clear exactly what the motive might have been, just at this point."
On June 11, CBS 11 News spoke with a member of the management team at No Frills Grill. He said that he walked outside at about 2:00 a.m. early Monday morning and went over to Shreves' car because the headlights were on. It was then that the manager found a window shattered on the vehicle and someone dead inside.
The manager also confirmed that the bar had a video surveillance security system, and that it showed someone getting out of the passenger side of Shreves' car late Sunday night. On Thursday, Arlington police said that the surveillance video also linked Brooks to the crime.
Brooks has been charged with Murder and is being held in the Arlington City Jail on $100,000 bond.
