NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There are dozens of dogs in Dallas that are now looking for forever homes. The dogs were seized in an animal cruelty raid last month. All the dogs, and eight horses, were found living without proper access to food or shelter.

Twenty of the 58 dogs seized are up for adoption today at Dallas Animal Services. All of the dogs have been spayed or neutered (i.e., sterilized) and are up to date on shots

Animal Services manager Jody Jones says most of the dogs are Australian cattle mixes and their new owners will need to give them plenty of attention. "These dogs need families that are gonna put some time and energy into keeping them busy in a very fun and inclusive way," she said.

The property owner was arrested during the raid and is now facing charges of cruelty to livestock animals, cruelty to non-livestock animals and other charges.

As horrible as the conditions were, Jones said the animal situation appeared to have started somewhat innocently. "Admitted by the owner, she started with two dogs. And she ended up... you know, we seized 58."

None of the animals had been sterilized so they just continued to breed. Jones says the 20 dogs available for adoption today get along well with each other and other dogs.

The dogs that aren't yet ready for families will go to foster homes until they are.

In addition to the rescued dogs and horse, there are more than 80 animals that are also now available for a adoption at Dallas Animal Services locations.

All of the animals are available for adoption on a first come first serve basis.
