A&Ms 'Yell Leader' Takes Unusual Path To Dream

COLLEGE STATION (AP) -- Texas A&M University's new Yell Leader, the man who leads crucial chants at football games and other events, took a path through the military and Iraq to fulfill his dream.

Thirty-four-year-old Roy May Jr. says he has dreamed of being Yell Leader and attending the university since he was 4. His dream came true last spring when the university's student body elected him to a post once held by Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

May, though, took an unusual path. Married and the father of an 8-year-old daughter, May first spent 12 years in the Army. In 2009, he was deployed to Iraq. May is a staff sergeant who is a career counselor in the Army Reserves. May hopes to graduate in 2015 with a degree in industrial distribution.
