Ambulance Fraud
The owner of a north Texas ambulance service is heading to federal prison.
It's a health care fraud scheme that sends Muhammed Usman of Arlington to 15 years behind bars. He was the owner of Royal Ambulance Service and First Choice EMS. They were in the business of non-emergency patient transport. He and two co-defendants were convicted last May of 14 counts of health care fraud, and money laundering in connection with Medicaid and Medicare payments. Two co-defendants also convicted await sentencing. They were reimbursed for non-emergency runs. In some cases patients rode to appointments in a captain's chair rather than lying on a stretcher.
