AL Champion Rangers Being Honored In Austin
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Legislature has a lot on their hands – a multi-billion dollar budget shortfall, a debate this week on a voter ID bill – and that is all on top of proposals to make cuts to education and health, and eliminating jobs. But lawmakers are going to take a moment to celebrate!
On Wednesday, representatives from Arlington will host a delegation from the city and the Texas Rangers. Managing partner and CEO Chuck Greenberg, team president Nolan Ryan and manager Ron Washington will be making visits to both the House and Senate chambers.
The team is being recognized for the franchise's first trip to the World Series this past October.
And then, it is back to work for the lawmakers. They have a lot on their plates in the coming months.
It is also back to work for the Rangers. The American League champions are looking to wrap up their busy off-season. They still have two arbitration-eligible players in league MVP Josh Hamilton and relief pitcher Frank Francisco. (Update: Later in the day, Francisco was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for Mike Napoli, who could split duties between catcher, first baseman and designated hitter.)
Pitchers and catchers can start reporting for spring training in Surprise, Arizona on February 14.
