Afternoon Rain, Update on Isaac
Local radar continues to track rain and a few thunderstorms around north Texas. Good rains have piled up in Parker County and north Dallas County. You can follow the latest relevant radar images on Twitter @cbs11jeffrey.
I expect this activity to continue the rest of the day. Localized flooding is possible as the afternoon wears on. We are not expecting severe weather.
TROPICAL STORM ISAAC
The storm has not strengthened over the last few hours, good news for the residents of Key West. At 2pm the storm center was 50 miles SE of Key West moving NW at 18mph. The eye of the storm is going to pass over the outer Keys this afternoon and likely become a hurricane late tonight. 60-65 winds gust have been reported in the Keys.
Here is the latest track forecast on Isaac:
Strong winds with gusts up to 50mph are possible in Tampa tomorrow as the (by then) hurricane passes to the west of the city out in open (warm) Gulf water.
The eye of the storm should make landfall sometime late Tuesday night anywhere from New Orleans over to Pensacola. It is forecast to have winds around 100-105mph at that time.
The various forecast models continue to show a preference for a more westerly track. This trend is now in its second day. The more west it heads the more a factor it becomes for north Texas weather by Wednesday or Thursday.
Below is the latest run of the "SLUSH" model, a forecast tool used to predict maximum tide levels caused by Isaac as it makes landfall. The east side of the storm carries with it an south wind that pushes seawater up and above sea level. In red it shows a increase in water height of 12-13 ft (area of red) in Biloxi and west to the Pearl River.
We'll have an update on the strength and position of Isaac at 5pm.
