Abused And Left For Dead, Blind Beagle Sees Love

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dumped on the side of the road, a 3-year-old beagle named Keegan has had it 'ruff'.
When the affectionate pup showed up at a shelter, he had contagious sarcoptic mange, tape worms, heart worms and his bulging, blind eyes were inflamed and infected.
An animal rescue group scooped up Keegan and took him to the vet where his sarcoptic mange was immediately treated, according to his new owner, Tiffany Huffmaster. She said Keegan was also given antibiotics and pain medication for his eyes before she adopted him on Saint Patrick's Day 2015. But an ophthalmologist determined his intraocular pressure was too high, and removed both of Keegan's eyes.
"Most people who come here don't know he doesn't have eyes until he looks up at them,"said Huffmaster.
Medication wouldn't have easily controlled his nasty infection nor his inflammation, according to the doctor.
Despite losing both eyes, Keegan is resilient and has adjusted quite well, according to Huffmaster. They said he no longer suffers from pain or head aches and is in good spirits.
Despite all the hardships Keegan has experienced, he's hard at work to earn his Good Canine Citizenship Certificate, so he can visit sick children at Children's Medical Center of Dallas.
"It feels good to be able to give back in such a way that will be able to brighten someone's day... just like someone was able to brighten his," said Huffmaster.
Leading by example, seeing nothing but love from his new family and numerous friends on Facebook... Keegan even has fans around the country that helped fund his surgery.
