AUSTIN (AP) - Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to tell lawmakers that roads, education and border security are the biggest issues facing Texans in his first State of the State address.

Abbott on Tuesday will also likely ask the Legislature to prioritize tax cuts over the next 100 days. He will do so while addressing a joint session of the House and Senate for the first time since taking the oath of office last month.

Abbott's agenda has been no secret. He called for a limited expansion of pre-kindergarten during his campaign and has said Texas should hire 500 additional state troopers.

Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said last week he expects the National Guard to remain on the Texas-Mexico border through fall and not return in March as previously planned.
