A Day of Fire

Grass fires burned across our area today when the combination of strong winds and low humidity increased the fire danger across drought striken Texas.

The latest from the Texas Forest Service:

The entire city of Strawn (pop. 764) and portions of Palo Pinto County (west of Highway 16 and south of Possum Kingdom Lake) are under a mandatory evacuation order. An evacuation order has been given for the Peninsula on Possum Kingdom Lake. The Peninsula has approximately 300 homes and a campground. Fire is estimated at 1,000 acres.

Eastland County, County Road 104 Fire - 1,400 acres. Five homes and one vehicle destroyed.

Jack County, Bryson Fire Complex, two fires - 7,500 acres. 14 businesses and 140 home and outbuildings threatened. 70 people evacuated yesterday. 50 percent contained. Jack County is now without power.

Stephens County, Jackson Ranch Fire - 2,270 acres, 50 percent contained. The town of Caddo was evacuated today. TFS resources responding today include a Task Force of dozers and engines, a TIFMAS Strike Team of engines, and 2 heavy Helitankers.

Tomorrow a RED FLAG WARNING is in effect for the western third of north Texas. The Metroplex and areas to the east and southeast will enjoy higher humidity as the second day of a south wind brings up Gulf moisture. A dry line moves into our western counties meaning another day of low humdity, high temperatures and high winds where the fires are still burning.
