70 Days this year in the 100s!!!

WE DID IT!

Today marked the 70th day this year with temperatures in the 100s.  That beats the old record set in 1980 of 69 days of triple digit temps in a year.  We smashed thru 100 degree today with high temperatures in the 105 to 110 range.  To give you a sense of how unusual today was in terms of normal, the previous record high for this date was only 100 degrees set in 1965.

ALSO…

Today's high of 107 at DFW is the hottest temperature ever recorded this late in the calendar year.

The latest 100 degree high temperature ever recorded was 106 set on Oct. 3, 1951.  So yes, it is possible to get 100 degree days in October.

ADD ANOTHER ONE TO THE TALLY TOMORROW…

Tomorrow will likely be day number 71 of triple digit weather as I am expecting a high around 100 degrees.

RED FLAG WARNING THRU 8pm...

The dry air and strong southwest winds are the reason for the Red Flag Warning.  This is a critical fire weather day which means if a fire were to start it would spread very quickly.  The conditions won't be as bad tomorrow, but on Thursday behind the front, winds will gusts to 30 mph out of the NE.

COLD FRONT ARRIVES…

A front that is currently moving thru northern Oklahoma will be nudged southward tonight and tomorrow.  It will make it to the Red River by tomorrow afternoon.  Temperatures there will be cooler depending on the placement of the front.  There will also be some small storm chances along the front.  10% coverage at best.  These storms will be more of a fire threat as lightning could potentially spark fires.  The front continues to sag southward tomorrow night and by Thursday should be south of Dallas/Fort Worth.  This will cool us in the 80s for highs on Thursday and Friday.  Closer to the front in our southern counties temps will likely still be in the 90s.  There will be some small rain chances tomorrow, Thursday and Friday with the front nearby.  Rain coverage doesn't look terribly high and rain intensity doesn't look to be too great.  But there will be a little more cloud cover and at least some rain chances around later this week.
