GREENVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities are investigating a fiery car crash that killed four people and shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate-30 in Hunt County early Friday. It happened shortly before 2:00 a.m. as emergency crews were dispatched to a wrong-way collision along the highway.

A silver Mercury, with only the driver and a dog inside, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, stated Kyle Bradford with the Texas Department of Public Safety. That vehicle struck a white SUV with five people inside -- all teenagers. The SUV burst into flames upon impact.

After that incident, a big rig attempted to avoid the scene, but struck both of the crashed vehicles.

The driver of the Mercury was pronounced dead at the scene, along with three teenagers from the SUV, Bradford said. Those victims have not yet been identified.

The other two people from the SUV were also hurt during the crash. One teenager was in critical condition and transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas via air ambulance. The other victim, whose condition is not known, was taken by ground to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville.

"I have a teenager myself, so definitely that hits home," said Bradford at the scene early Friday. "We've always got to maintain professional demeanor and we've got to work the best way we can work it, so that's what we're doing at this time."

The westbound lanes of the highway were shut down early Friday so that authorities could conduct an investigation and crews could clean up the mess. Check the traffic map for the latest updates.
