22 Train Cars Come Off Track In Gainesville
GAINESVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - A massive train derailment in Cooke County on Tuesday night left surprisingly few lasting effects, despite the fact that 22 rail cars came off of the track.
Joe Faust with BNSF confirmed that it was one of his company's trains which derailed along a main line on the southern edge of Gainesville. The cars which left the track were carrying iron ore.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene. But nothing was spilled, no hazardous materials were dumped, and there were no injuries.
Faust said that crews are now working to repair the track. It is expected to be opened again by 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The derailment really only impacted some passenger rail service. This portion of track is shared with Amtrak. Company spokesman Craig Schulz said that rail passengers will be bused between Gainesville and Fort Worth until the track can be fixed.
