21 Best Rangers Ever: Al Oliver
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - A fan favorite in his 4 seasons in Arlington, Al Oliver is remembered fondly enough by Rangers faithful to be #20 on the 21 Best Rangers Ever list.
Scoop, as he was nicknamed, talked recently to Texas Monthly about being traded to baseball's outpost in 1978, only to be embraced by the fans. "I didn't know much about Texas," he told the magazine.
He still hold the Rangers record for career batting average (.319) and is #3 on the Rangers all-time list for hits in a season behind Michael Young and Mickey Rivers.
And while Al will probably be best remembered as a member of the Pirates of the early 70's, he'll always have a special place in the hearts of the old Arlington Stadium bleacher faithful.
