2 Texans Get Prison For Smuggling Drugs In Laundry Products

BROWNSVILLE (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Two Texas women who pretended to run a laundry business are going to prison for trying to smuggle more than 250 pounds of methamphetamine in soap and softener containers.
Prosecutors say 25-year-old Crystal Yvette Martinez and 24-year-old Tina Marie Trevino were sentenced Thursday in Brownsville.
Both women from Brownsville were convicted of methamphetamine distribution-related charges. Martinez must serve 20 years in prison. Trevino was sentenced to more than six years.
Prosecutors say Trevino in 2014 was driving an SUV, with Martinez as the passenger, traveling from Mexico and trying to enter Texas at the Brownsville port of entry. The vehicle had a large number of fabric softener and soap bottles.
Drug-sniffing dogs drew attention to the SUV. The containers yielded 255 pounds of meth. Both women were arrested.
