MELISSA (CBSDFW.COM) -- Southbound U.S. Highway 75 has been shutdown in Melissa following a 15-car chain reaction crash that occurred on Friday.
Kyle Babcock with the Melissa Police Department says that two individuals were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.
"One vehicle lost control and set the whole thing off. Which one? We're still trying to determine," said Babcock.
Babcock says the roadway will be closed for "some time" near Melissa Road as the cleanup and investigation continues. Multiple tow trucks were on scene helping in the cleanup.
He advises drivers to find alternate routes, like Highway 5, and avoid the area completely.
"We're still in the cleanup stages right now," said Babcock. "We're still trying to investigate and figure out what set everything off outside of the obvious weather conditions."
Nearby McKinney has received around an inch of snow on Friday morning, while neighboring areas have received over three inches.
Many school districts opted to cancel classes or release students early as road conditions worsen.
