100% of State in a Drought

100% OF STATE IN A DROUGHT…

With the latest drought monitor issued this morning, 100% of the state of Texas is in a drought.  88% of the state is in Exceptional Drought which is the worse classification of drought.  Before the summer started in May, 48% of the state was in the Exceptional Drought Category.

OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER OUTLOOK…

La Nina will be making a comeback over the next three months.  This does not bode well for our drought sitiation.  La Nina's typically bring drier than normal precipitation to Texas and warmer than normal temperatures.  Here is the outlook for temperatures across the US.

We are in the 40% likelihood of having above average temperatures.

The precipitation outlook doesn't look too promising either.

We are again in the 40% chance of below average precipitation.

WARMING BACK UP FOR THE WEEKEND…

It was a nice break from the heat and humidity today as temperatures stayed in the 60s and 70s most of the morning.  Afternoon highs did climb into the 80s for most locations from Dallas/Fort Worth southward.  But highs along the Red River where the clouds were a little thicker and the rain a little more in coverage topped out in the 70s.

The cold front that is now near Houston will come back north as a warm front tomorrow.  This will turn our winds from the NE today to the S by the afternoon tomorrow.  There will likely be a few showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm during the morning tomorrow as the front nears the area.  Temperatures will start off in the mid 60s tomorrow morning then warm into the mid to upper 80s by tomorrow afternoon.  There will be more showers and thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon but mainly well west of Fort Worth.

WEEKEND WARMUP…

With the warm front moving north for the weekend, temperatures will climb into the 90s on Saturday and Sunday.  There will be spotty rain chances on Saturday, but Sunday evening could see a better chance of rain.  Another cold front will drop down into the area.  The timing is still a little uncertain, but it looks like either Sunday evening or Sunday night.  Thunderstorms appear to be possible along the front some of these storms could be severe.  I'll put rain coverage at about 40% with the prospect that coverage may be greater.

NEXT WEEK…

High temperatures will be in the upper 80s next week with small rain chances lingering on Monday and then again on Wednesday.  Low temperatures next week should be pretty consistent in the 60s.
