PALESTINE (AP) — One man is in police custody and another is hospitalized with a gunshot wound after a shooting in an East Texas high school parking lot outside a gym where a basketball playoff game was to be played.

The shooting happened about 6 p.m. Friday in the Palestine High School parking lot just before a playoff game between high school teams from the East Texas towns of Teague and Malakoff.

Palestine school district spokeswoman Suzanne Eiben tells the Palestine Herald-Press that the shooting involved two men from Teague.

Palestine police Capt. James Muniz says the wound was not thought to be life-threatening, and he and Eiben said there was no further threat to the public.

No identities or charges have been released.
