Doug Dunbar is co-anchor of CBS News Texas at 5, 7 and 10 p.m.
Approaching 20 years with CBS News Texas, Doug remains a trusted voice in North Texas, helping inform daily, and guiding us through some of the toughest moments our community has seen.
Doug and his family have also given to this community consistently, and compassionately. From community events, to impactful fundraising. Most notable, to date, Doug has raised over $350,000 to help fund the fight against cancer. Including his race to the Ironman World Championship finish line in Kona, Hawaii in 2016, to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, raising over $150,000 in that effort alone.
Growing up the son of an Army father, Doug's passion for our nation's veterans never is ever-present. Taking viewers inside the real life stories of our nations heroes. From his emotional and eye opening storytelling from the D-Day shores of Normandy, France, to the deeply personal stories of survival from those who fought in war, only to come back to fight demons at home.
Recognizing our military men and women is personal for Doug, who lost his own father, U.S. Army Sgt. First Class Clarence Dunbar, to the war in Vietnam. Raised alone after the loss, by his beloved mother Inge who was born and raised in war time Germany.
Over three decades as a private pilot now, Doug reports extensively on all things aviation. From commercial operations to our military. He's also among the very few civilians to ever fly both the F-16 Falcon, as well as the FA-18 Hornet. Even trapping and catapulting the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier.
In addition to a competitive career in triathlon, he's also a former National Champion and record holder (since broken!) in the obscure sport of barefoot waterskiing!
Doug is blessed to live his life with his wife of 30 years, and his two children, who make him proud to be their dad.
