10 charged for cop shooting outside ICE facility
Ten people have been charged in the shooting of a police officer at a Texas ICE facility last Friday. An Alvarado, Texas, police officer was responding after graffiti was sprayed on vehicles and a guard structure at the facility when someone shot the officer in the neck. The officer was treated at a Fort Worth hospital and has since been released. Each of the individuals face three counts of attempted murder of federal agents. CBS News Homeland Security correspondent Nicole Sganga reports.
The warning system in flood-ravaged Texas
There are many questions being raised about the effectiveness of the current warning system in place for Texas' flood-prone Guadalupe River Basin. Kerr County officials started discussing the issue eight years ago in the aftermath of another river flood, but cost was a major obstacle. As a result, communities have continued to rely on an archaic word-of-mouth system to learn about impending threats. Avantika Gori is a professor at Rice University leading a federally-funded project to improve flood resilience in rural Texas counties. She joined CBS News to discuss the flooding.
