CDC: Suicide, homicide rates increased sharply among young Americans
Experts believe the increases are a result of several factors, including social media, the COVID-19 pandemic and limited access to mental health services.

Report finds alarming rise in suicides
Troubling new data from the CDC shows that the number of deaths by suicide among adolescents and young adults is on the rise. According to the report, suicide rates for people ages 10 to 24 rose 60% since 2011. Ken Zimmerman and Arvind Sooknanan from Fountain House, a national mental health nonprofit, joined CBS News to talk about the study.

U.S. suicide rate rises
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported this week that suicide was the 11th leading cause of death in the U.S. in 2021. The suicide death rate has risen 32% in the last two decades, and rose 4% between 2020 and 2021, according to CDC numbers. Mitchell J. Prinstein, chief science officer for the American Psychological Association, spoke to CBS News about the alarming rise.
